An Ad on Podcast Show Notes?
I'm doing a small advertising experiment for a couple of weeks. I've put a Google Ad block in the podcast show notes.

Oh and just so you know, I'm not making any plans to put that ad block on any other blog post or anywhere else on the site; besides the footer where's it's been for some time. I realize having an ad block in the middle of a blog post is most annoying. Trust me you're not going to be seeing that kind of forced advertising here. The Google Ad block is off to the side of the show notes in an unobtrusive area.

As a web developer this advertising experiment will teach me how position of advertising blocks relates to traffic and content. There are plenty of tutorials online about how advertising works on web sites, but I wanted to see it for myself in a hands-on and controlled way.

Okay why the podcast show notes?

Well here's the odd thing, the podcast show notes are consistently the most popular posts on Blog Oklahoma blog. I typically only post the show notes once a week, so I'll have a controlled data set to study.

I'm also hoping to learn why the podcast show notes are the most popular posts here on the Blog Oklahoma blog. I get waaaaaay more reads of the show notes than I get listens to the podcasts.

Can anyone explain that one? I’m going to need some feedback on that head scratcher.

Well that’s the reason for the show notes ad block. I like to keep everyone informed on the happenings here at Blog Oklahoma. And if I learn anything with my little experiment I’ll be sure to it pass along. Please feel free to post a comment, contact me, or @blogoklahoma if you have any questions or feedback.

A Note About The Ads: I honestly didn't get into blogging to make money. I more or less put up Google & Amazon Ads to learn how to use them. This said, On the rare occasion do get anything from them, I one, take the family out to dinner, and two give the rest to charity through out the year.
